Returns are accepted only for items ordered directly from UH Press not less than 3 months or more than 12 months from the date of original shipment, and must be in clean and re-saleable condition. Out-of-print titles and books that are no longer distributed by UH Press are not eligible for return.

Bookseller’s return request must include the following information:

Booksellers must report shortages or damaged books within 30 days (domestic) or 90 days (international) to receive full credit. When reporting a shortage, please indicate the number of copies shorted; replacement copies will be shipped. Reports received after 30 days (domestic) or 90 days (international) may be subject to a late processing fee equal to 30% of the publisher’s retail value.

Before contacting us for permission to use material from our publications, please first verify that rights to the material do indeed belong to the University of Hawai‘i Press (the notes, acknowledgement section, captions, or copyright page may contain credit information pointing to a copyright holder elsewhere). If the material is credited to a source other than the University of Hawai‘i Press, please address your request there. We cannot grant permission over the telephone and ask that you allow us 2-4 weeks to process your request. Please click here for more Rights and Permissions Guidelines.

UH Press is happy to consider requests for translation rights. Generally, we are not able to grant rights to individual translators, and require that translators find a publisher before we can enter into a license agreement. If you are a publisher interested in translation rights, please fill out our Translation Rights Requests Form
